Would we be interested in Nomar?

Platoon
I think he’d have to platoon at SS and 2B for him to be a worthwhile investment. I don’t think he would be too open to being behind Miggy and Kaz/Newhan.
Minute Maid has an extremely neutral park factor
Except on HR to the Crawford Boxes.
I don’t know enough about Nomar to say that our park factors help or hurt him. Can you expound upon that claim?
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

In 2008, MMP was not neutral.
The park factor for runs was above 1, and the park factor for HRs was fairly high, making MMP the 8th most HR-friendly park.

The park factor will fluctuate from year to year, but over a long enough period of time, the park will be a little above average in runs and significantlly above average in HRs. Even when the MMP park factor for runs is neutral or less, the HR factor is generally above 1.
As for Nomar, he has raked in MMP over his career. He hit the grand slam which sent Lidge down the toilet. It may have been worse for Lidge’s career in Houston than the Pujols blast. Based on an admittedly small sample size, Nomar’s swing seems well suited for the Crawford Boxes, IMO.
But this year
Is a pretty big anomaly, the previous years have all been about as close to neutral is possible.
However, if Nomar is helped out by the park factors, then he might just be a good option — especially at third…if only our team was planning on spending money this year though (or at least on people not named Randy Wolf).

Nomar doesn't make much sense for us at this point
Unless we trade Miggy, at which point I still don’t think he makes a ton of sense for us given his back issues.

I have suggested Nomar in the past, but generally as a 3d baseman....
in the event Wiggy was traded. I don’t think Nomar has the range to play shorstop well anymore. Maybe he could back up shortstop at times, but his defense wouldn’t be good enough to play there full time if Miggy went down. I agree that his bat seems well suited for MMP, but I suspect he is too expensive to be a utility player. The positive aspect is that Nomar has connections to Austin and probably would like playing in Houston if he isn’t asked to return to LA.
that is what I meant about the connection to Austin...
Mia obviously has connections here and my recollection is that they have a lake house or something in the Austin area. In 06, when Nomar was a free agent, he narrowed his choices down to Austin and LA based on closeness to family/friends. In 2005, I recall tidbits in the Austin paper about locals seeing Mia and Nomar at Austin restaurants during Cubs’ road dates in Houston.
Well
Let’s trade Wiggy, sign No-MAAA (think Boston accent) and see more of Mia.
