Arizona Fall League News

The Scottsdale Scorpions played today and some baby 'stros saw some action.

Position Players:

Drew Sutton (ended the 2008 season at Corpus Christi), playing SS and batting third, in five plate attempts got 1 H and drew 2 BB, and got a SB.  No strikeouts, but made two fielding errors.  His usual position is 2B, so maybe playing shortstop threw him off.

Chris Johnson (ended at Round Rock), playing 3B and batting fifth, in five plate attempts got two hits.  He also got picked off at first after one of those hits.  He struck out once.

Pitchers:

Sergio Perez (ended at Corpus) got the start and threw 38 pitches in two innings.  He gave up 2 H, 2 BB, and 1 ER.  He got 2 K's and 4 ground outs (no fly outs).

Chris Blazek (ended at Corpus) followed Perez with two innings and 35 pitches.  He gave up 3 H, 2 BB, and 2 ER.  He got 1 K and picked a guy off at 1st base.

Bud Norris (Corpus) threw 26 pitches over two innings.  He gave up 2 H and 2 BB.  No ER, but no K's either.

Brad James (Corpus) unfortunately blew the save, pitching 1.2 innings, and giving up 3 ER on 4 H and 1 BB.  He did manage to get 2 K's, but also gave up the only home run of the game.

From whatever date these stats are updated (which doesn’t appear very current, browing through box scores), Jason Castro was leading his team in BA (7/19 for a .368 avg), 5th in the league (Buster Posey is 2nd with a .429 avg).

Hopefully he can keep up his hot start and have a nice winter season.
