Houston Astros Sign Taiwanese Pitcher Lo Chia-Jen
The 5′11 righty previously sat on 90-93 MPH, but apparently elation with his new deal has bumped his velo up to 96 on several pitches in a recent college tourney. Lo is best suited to a setup or closing role, and primarily pumps fastballs. He occasionally mixes in a hard curve and split-finger as show-me pitches, but lives and dies with the heater.

I read about this a couple days ago
and what surprised me most was that we beat out the Red Sox in bidding for him. I’m surprised whenever Uncle Drayton outbids anyone in player development.
It’s definitely a good sign, though.
“The Astros were apparently unfazed by Lo’s notorious meltdown in the 2008 Beijing olympics in which he coughed up the lead to the vaunted Chinese team, eventually leading to the heart attack death of a 75-year old long-time Taiwanese baseball fan.”
1) He’s killed someone – good source for a nickname.
2) I’m glad that the Brad Lidge legacy of big-game meltdowns will live on.
That's crazy
I wonder if anyone had a heart-attack related to the Pujols HR that wasn’t properly reported.
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Not to make light of an old man's death
(okay, maybe making light of it quite a bit – who dies from watching baseball?) but that’s pretty hilarious. Christ, I hope this guy makes it to the big-leagues. The possibilities are endless.
Lo "The Killer" Chia Jen
I like this signing.
Are we going to see him in Spring Training with a shot to make the roster?

I doubt it
This is apparently his first professional contract. He’s the equivalent of a US college prospect.
Hmm
…have we managed to sign anyone out of Latin America worth noting? There’s always a talent pool over there.
I hope the Astros have made good signings in Latin America.
However, it seems like the widely heralded Latin American signees probably require more than a $250,000 bonus.
There are some interesting statistics coming out of the Astros' DSL and VSL programs.
But most were signed this or last year. Wade’s made improving the Dominican program a priority, so I’d expect to see some good stuff coming out of our LA programs in a few years.
