I sort of feel bad for Sabathia

getting worked over by Myers, but I wouldn’t mind if the Phillies advance.

Breweres only down 4 runs to start the 5th

but their bullpen isn’t very good right?

Lidge coming in for the save

A more patient team would have gotten to him yesterday. Fortunately for him Brewers ain’t one of them and he won’t face the middle of the order

LIDGE!

Lidge is in the playoffs haha. I like Valverde better. :)

Phillies win 5-3 over Brewers

I listened only to the first few innings before I had to leave my computer. The game was much more exciting than Game 1. The Brewers brought their game and wntr full force in the first innings. I expect a better showing, espeically with Sabbathia on the mound.

Suddeny that disastrous second inning where Sabbathia thew so many picthes and walked too many people, capped by a grand slam homerun that took all the suspense and maybe the intensity out of the game.

That’s when I had to leave. I see Phillies stood pat after that and the Brewers could muster ony one more run.

Phillies up (and Brewers down) 2 games to none; which looks bad for the Brewers. Another way to look at it is that Phillies held serve. Now it’s Brewers turn to play at home, trying to get one more game in Philly. In this view, Brewers are in better shape than Cuns and Angels.

I picked Philadelphia to win this series and I don’t really expect the series to return to Philladelphia

I wonder how many shots we’ll see of people sleeping in the late innings.

Wow- Cubs can't field

Shortstop tried bare hand catch; second baseman bobbled double play grounder; first baseman knocked ball down and could not find it.

All in the second inning

I don't wanna jinx anything here,

(not that I endorse such Cubfan-like beliefs)

but good god that was awesome.

Going by Win Expectancy, there’s an 83% chance the Dodgers will win this one.

While I'm hoping the Cubs lose the series

I’m having a tough time pulling for the Dodgers. By all account Manny behaved like a complete douchebag and the more the Dodgers win the more we’ll hear about “Manny being Manny” and that got old a long time ago.

by mokulen on Oct 2, 2008 10:00 PM CDT   0 recs

I don't know,

I’m willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He works hard at what he does, despite appearances. And, while it’s possible he was throwing games before he was traded, I doubt it.

Here’s the problem I have: if the Cubs were to win the World Series, we’d have to listen to that bullshit for years and years.

But if they lose again, we have to hear their typical “curse” bullshit. And about how their the only fans in history to go without a championship for a while.

It’s kind of a no-win situation.

Manny Ramirez is the most entertaining player in baseball

Boston fans will say his act gets old but for those of use that only see him game situations, he delivers with style.

Oh I'm sure he works hard

I bet a lot of guys with reputations of being a clown or carefree actually work hard. It’s not that.

I just saying from what I read it sounded like Ramirez tanked the season to force a trade and become a free-agent at the end of the year. I don’t find that hard to believe – not only because of who his agent is but because NBA players do it all the time. It’s how how Houston got Tracy McGrady. :D

I'm pulling for Joe Torre, though

I think it would be pretty sweet if the Dodgers won it all, especially if their AL opponent ended up being the Red Sox. The media would unfortunately be all over the Manny-returning-to-Boston angle, but the irony would be delicious, considering that Torre was totally ignored in the recent Yankee celebration for the old stadium, and considering as well that Hank Steinbrenner’s retort to a reporter’s question about the Dodgers making the playoffs was something along the lines of, “So? The Yankees have a better record.”

The "C" in Cubs Stand For "Collapse"

The delicious irony.

I asked my good MLB buddy (who is a huge Yankees fan) a couple days ago about who he thought would go to the WS. On the NL side, he said, “Cubs” and was not opposed to an all-Chicago world series.

I said, “No way,” picking the Phillies and expecting the Cubs to stay true to form, which is what they deserve the way they dealt with the Astros series in such an a—-ole fashion.

I believe I even got off the line we shopped around here, “Despite their success in the season, they’re going to put their jersey on for the NLDS, look in the mirror, and realize that they’re still the stinking Cubs who can never put the pieces together in the post-season.”

by pel on Oct 3, 2008 7:05 AM CDT   0 recs

Brewers stay alive 4-1

I watched only a couple of innings since so many football games are on; but what I saw was a Brewers team deserving to win this game.

One bright moment. Birmingham Barons is a AAA minor league team. I remember seeing Scott Eyre pitching and also Mike Cameron playing center field (for over 2 seasons). I looked up from paying my bills to see Scott Eyre pitching to Mike Cameron. Pretty cool. (Okay – it’s not for most of the world – but it is for me)

Yeah, but Cubs will always be 2008 NL Central Champions

and they made the playoffs
and they finished ahead of he Astros.

Cubs had a better season than the Astros.

Since I picked the Dodgers to go to the World Series I am glad the Dodgers beat the Cubs.

Because it means obnoxious Cubs fans will shut up (or go into hibernation) until February, I am glad the Cubs were swept. (or ofcourse they can root for the other Chicago team, the White Sox).

Since I’ve enjoyed watching a master in Joe Torre manage the series, I’m glad the Dodgers won.

I’d like to see the Angels make a big comeback since I picked them to go to the World Series. The other two series are going just fine thank you very much.

When I was picking playoff brackets,

it come up all LA. I’ve felt all season Angels were the best team in basebal so it was an automatic they would win the World Series. The fact Boston has whipped them two games in a row shows how little I pay attention to the American League.

As far as the Dodgers, I thought Manny Ramirez was a difference maker. I’ ve been impressed with Ethier since early in the season . it just seemed to me Dodgers were peaking at the right time and woudl beat the Cubs, which they did . Philles and Brewers stumbled to the finish line and are tattered teams because of it so I had the Dodgers beating the winner of that series too.

Once I picked the LA teams to make the World Sereis I kind of want them to make it. but I have no favorite team in the playoffs.

Phillies eliminated Brewers 6-2

while I watched the Texans blow a 17 point lead with about 6 minutes left in the game.

The first two teams eliminated from the playoffs are from the NL Central.

As I understand Phillies get the home field advantage in the NL Championship Series.

Don't bring up the Texans

Christ, that was awful.

But I’m glad that the Brewers are eliminated. Braun made me hate that entire team. Especially when he stripped off his jersey – that was unbelievably dickish. Hopefully the Dodgers will win the next one.

Angels-Red Sox tied 4-4 in the 8th inning

A major Angels fielding blunder early in the game has the Angels on the verge of being eliminated. For those who missed it, Red Sox had bases loaded with two outs. A high popup fell between the center fielder, second baseman, and shortstop when the cneter fielder stopped to allow the second basemans to catch it. The second baseman ran out of the way too late for the Angels centerfielder (Tori Hunter) to catch it. With two outs the runners were on the move and the Red Sox scored three runs ( a high pop -up!!)

(As I typed this the Angels are retired in the top of the 8th – score still 4-4 )

Napoli, the Angels catcher, is the unlikely hero of the game with two home runs early and scoring the winnig run in the twelfth.

Rays Methodically Oust White Sox 6-2

Rays scored in the first, third, fourth , fifth and seventh innings to end the White Sox year. Rays had more runs than the White Sox had hits.

It’s no surprise Rays won this series. I think almost everyone picked the Rays to win.

It’s a little disconcerting all the middle American teams are out leaving only West Coast and East Coast teams remaining (I’m counting Tampa Bay as East Coast; and Philly is too for this purpose)
