Rays defeat White Sox in Game 1
I missed most of the game. Ex-Astro Octavio Dotel pitched to one Rays batter (B J Upton) in the bottom of the 8th with the bases loaded. After starting 2-0, he threw three straight strikes to get out of the inning.
Closing for the Rays was ex-Astros Dan Wheeler. First batter he faced, Paul Konerko, hit a homerun. Wheeler gets the next three batters and the Rays take game 1 by a 6-4 score.

Is anybody else annoyed
that the Rays can’t even sell out, not only a playoff game, but a momentous occasion like the FIRST PLAYOFF GAME IN FRANCHISE HISTORY? i’ve been pulling for the Rays all season out of anti-Yankees/Red Sox sentiment, sort of a big FU to the northeastern elites that barely consider there are other teams in that division, but it really struck me when I heard that some 15% of tickets were still unsold at the start of yesterday’s game. makes me think of all the fans not lucky enough to have their team in the playoffs, who would be falling all over themselves for tickets to such a game. maybe it has a little to do with the time scheduling to appease television broadcast whims, but c’mon… who here wouldn’t take a vacation day or call in sick if the Astros played a day game playoff game yesterday?
i don’t know, just wondering if that rubbed anybody else the wrong way. the Rays should be good for a little while now with all the young talent they’ve got on that team. i sure hope their fans come around.

hmm
This thread over at Spikes ‘n Stars makes it sound like maybe it actually was a sellout, but the stadium just sucks, so they don’t EVER sell 15% of the seats. I don’t remember much about the stadium from watching the Astros games there earlier this year.
Okay, maybe the fanbase isn’t so pathetic. I feel better rooting for them now.
