Jake Peavy would approve trade to Houston
I found this story over at Gaslamp Ball quoting Jake Peavy's agent:
Axelrod made one concrete stipulation to any trade scenarios: “Jake would only approve a trade to a team with a solid chance of winning and a winning tradition. Those teams in the National League may be in locations that are more acceptable, or would be.”
He said “the ability or opportunity to win is very important to Jake, and hopefully some sort of coincidence with his and his family's lifestyle.”
Among the cities Axelrod mentioned were Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and St. Louis.
I know I shouldn't get excited with all of Drayton's downer comments and our lack of prospects to send in return, but I can't help it. If we're going to pick a friend of Oswalt to join him in the rotation, I'd rather have Peavy than Sheets. Let's all dream together. I mean we should at least be flattered that they think we have a solid chance of winning AND a winning tradition.

I think this one may be unanimous
Peavy is a better pitcher when they are both healthy… and Sheets can’t really stay healthy so…
Go 'Stros!
Unfortunately, the lack of trading material is the biggest obstacle...
for the Astros. If the Padres only want a bounty of minor league prospects, like the D-Backs gave for Haren (which is consistent with rebuilding), then the Astros are likely to fall short. The Astros’ minor leaguers aren’t highly rated. I would try a Pence-Wandy-Paulino trade for Peavy, but I doubt that it would be sufficient for the Padres. But maybe it would…it depends on the Padres’ view of Pence’s upside. I suspect that there are a variety of opinions among teams regarding Pence, and you could hope that the Padres are among his admirers.
From what Alysson Footer has written,
Ed Wade is totally unwilling to trade Pence. As I’ve said before, I seriously doubt one starting pitcher, even one as fantastic as Peavy is, will take the Stros to the playoffs. With that in mind, I wouldn’t trade Pence, either.
Well, I also get the impression that Wade wants Peavy...
something has to give there. I don’t see any way that the Astros could trade for Peavy without giving up Pence. He is the only young valuable player they can offer. I like Pence alright, but I would be willing to trade him for Peavy. I have my doubts that Pence will be a great player…more likely he will just be a decent starting outfielder. Outfielders are easier to acquire than starting pitchers. So I think Pence can be replaced.
Pence+Wandy+Misc
sounds like good trade bait to me.
I would hate to see Pence go, but Peavy would be a great addition.
Oswalt-Peavy-Wolf-Backe-Moehler would be a decent rotation, assuming Moehler and Wolf can mostly repeat their performance from this past season.
We could give up Pence and Wandy for that.
def. peavy
though not much to trade…i would NOT trade pence…would like not to trade paulino but if we have to…
would do paulino, wandy, sampson, and prospect?

been reading
i have been reading that houston mught be peavys top choice…to that i say YAY!!!
i think a Bourn, Wandy, Paulino, Sapp (1st rounder in 05 or 06 (the catcher)) and Nieve for Peavy?
Bourn was iite, i think he’ll be good…Wandy only has a few good years left…Paulino will be good…Sapp has been a bust, and Nieve i never liked….
i think Pads might do it!
Stros are in a must win NOW…if they do this deal and sign Ben Sheets!!! OMG!

I don't see the Padre's doing that
and we won’t be signing Sheets & Peavy… it’s going to be either or… IF we get either one of them
Go 'Stros!
We should take both..
That’s at least a 90 win season right there. And excellent pitching for the play offs. Hear that Ed Wade?

Peavy
We missed the playoffs by 4.5 games this past year and we started out absolutely horrible. The only person remotely legit at the start of the season was Lance. If we had a pitcher of Peavy’s caliber I def think we would’ve been playing during October. I know we don’t have much in the farm, but it’s not like these guys are going to help us. Throw whatever it takes to get Jake in Houston. I have no problem giving up Pence/Wandy/Paulino for Jake Peavy.
Hunter has the power numbers we are expecting but his average is not there yet. He should producing a lot better, you would think, with the lineup around him.
Wandy is too inconsisent on the road and now he is having the oblique problems.
Felipe is still young and unproven. Also he has already had arm troubles which is kind of worrysome.
If San Diego would entertain a trade offer like that, why wouldn’t you take it? If he did come here I wonder what number he would wear…I doubt he would ask his bestfriend to change numbers for him lol.
Update...

I hope links are ok..can’t remember
..agonizing since 1983...
TBH...
Jake Peavy would be the missing piece to the 2009 and beyond post season puzzle. He is underrated because he is in a small market. The reason he says he wants to be on a winning team is the hopes of John Moores spending money to put a team around him. Which as we all know, won’t happen. The Astros best bet is to try and work a three-way trade out with the team who receives him, or wait patiently until his contract is up. Unfortunately I read an article a few years back that Oswalt has plans of an early retirement.
A Walk Is As Good As A Hit.
I don't think you can be underrated
if you have won a Cy Young and many sportswriters think you’re the #2 pitcher in the National League.
Well...
when he is second on a list that Brandon Webb is first, he is underrated.
A Walk Is As Good As A Hit.
