The club announced after Thursday's game that the 21-year-old top prospect[Troy Patton] will be called up in time to face the Pirates at Minute Maid Park on Saturday. A corresponding roster move will be announced after Friday's game. This will mean that over the last 5 starts(including this coming Friday and Saturday games), the Astros will have sent Wandy Rodriguez, Woody Williams, Juan Gutierrez, Matt Albers and Troy Patton. Not exactly the rotation I expected to see at some point during the season, but I'm really happy to at least get to see these "kids" at least get a little taste of the big leagues.
It also appears as if we'll be seeing the return of Brandon Backe to the rotation in September.
Brandon Backe's sixth and final rehab outing with the Triple-A Round Rock Express was postponed from Wednesday to Thursday, and then Thursday to Friday, because of two rainouts. Assuming all goes well on Friday, the right-hander will be activated from the disabled list on Sept. 1.This makes me happy, I just hope he's not returning too soon and is completely pain free and over any arm troubles. I like having Backe in the lineup. He's not the best pitcher I've ever seen, but he's good enough to be in the rotation and I like the way he plays. Having Backe and Pence to kind of bring some enthusiasm back to the lineup is a good thing.
In case you didn't notice, Carlos Lee became the first NL player this year to reach 100 RBI's after driving in 5 last night with 2 home runs and 3 hits.
