Roy an All-Star

In case you hadn't seen it yet...

Guess he won't need our help in the final vote after all.

It would be funny
if he won the final vote anyways.  Guess it would go to #2 then...

Too bad Pence can't go, after Lee, he's the only one on the Astros who really, really deserves.  Roy should go, but more because of past triumphs then his current season.

I think...
If Pence had started the season in the bigs that he would be an all-star, so blame T-Purp/Garner for that one.

Maybe
I think it's safe to say that Pence is flying a bit under the radar, although that may be in large part due to the fact that he only this week met the AB requirement for the batting title.  He most likely wouldn't have gotten the fan vote over Bonds, Beltran, and Griffey, and would have had to be selected either by the player vote or the manager selection.  The other OFers selected are Matt Holliday, Alphonso Soriano, Carlos Lee, and Aaron Rowand, all legit all-stars in their own right.  Here are some comparison stats:

Player    AVG /  OBP /  SLG / HR / RBI /  AB
Holliday .352 / .404 / .584 / 14 /  68 / 344
Soriano  .305 / .351 / .536 / 15 /  31 / 334
Lee       .295 / .348 / .515 / 16 /  72 / 332
Rowand   .309 / .385 / .472 / 11 /  43 / 307
Pence    .345 / .372 / .593 / 11 /  40 / 258

He definitely stacks up pretty well, and in writing these out, even as somebody that's quite familiar with how much he's tearing it up, I'm forced to say... DAMN, I didn't know his numbers were THAT good!  Anyway, he'd have to overcome the previous reputation of all of these players and in the case of Rowand, the defensive prowess.  I don't know that it'd be so cut and dry.

By the stats
if Hunter Pence was selected, Carlos Lee would have been the odd man out.

Again... maybe
if there were to be an odd man out, but the players and managers are going to select the veteran over the rookie every time, when the numbers are close.  that's just the way it is, and i'm not sure i disagree with them.

I disagree
IMO Soriano would go... remember, Lee leads the league in RBI's. That counts for something.

No
Lee was selected as well (but not by the fans)
