Biggio is retiring

As I'm sure many of you did as well, I just got the news via email from the Astros, but apparently Biggio announced his retirement in a blog post on MLB.com that is that is not coming up for me (have we Astros fans crashed their servers trying to read Biggio's announcement?).

Anyway, I just wanted to say THANK YOU Craig Biggio. You've been an Astro as long as I've been an Astros fan. Watching you and Bagwell are the #1 reason I never stopped following my team - even in some rough years. It's going to be hard to watch the Astros without both you and Bagwell, but I think Berkman will make it easier. You played hard and I appreciated every hard slide into 2nd, clutch double and lead-off home run. I could point you out on the field to my son (the 4th generation of die-hard Astros fan family tradition) as an example of what it meant to be a "real" baseball player. We knew it was coming, but we have you for the rest of the year and now that it's official I'll make sure to enjoy the last games of a hall of fame Astro. Thanks Craig!

BTW, from the Alyson Footer story on MLB.com, I noticed this bit:

It's also highly likely he'll play all three games against the Braves to end the season Sept. 28-30.

Biggio also hopes to crouch one more time behind the plate during that final game Sept. 30. The former catcher-turned second baseman-turned center fielder-turned left fielder-turned-second baseman would like to end his career at the position where it all started nearly 20 years ago.

How fitting that he'd end it as a catcher and against those damn Braves.
